For most post seem a trivial and obvious, but as recently happened to me having to send Docx documents that the recipient could not open it because did not have Office 2007. I want to inform you, there is a compatibility patch issued by Microsoft that allows to open all the new formats introduced in Office 2007 also in previous versions.
By installing the Compatibility Pack in conjunction with Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP or Office 2003, you can open, edit and save files using the new file formats introduced in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. You can also use the Compatibility Pack in conjunction with Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003 Excel Viewer 2003 and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in the new formats. For more information about the Compatibility Pack, see Knowledge Base article 924074.
After installing the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, click the second link than download and install the update, the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1.
Requirements: Windows 2000 SP4/XP/Server 2003 - Office 2000/XP/2003
